A template error means the column headers in your file do not match the template Readily expects for this report, so it cannot read the data. It is one of the most common errors and usually takes a minute to fix: replace your header row with the correct one and re-upload.

Recognize a failed template check

After the upload, the first check in the progress panel is Template check. If it fails you are taken straight to a Template Validation Failed screen instead of the Data View.

Compare your columns to the required columns

The table shows your file's headers on the left (Your Column) next to the template's headers on the right (Required Column). Rows marked Missing in red are the problem. In this example the file has "Enrollee's Last Name" where the template wants "Enrollee Last Name", and the "Plan Benefit Package (PBP)" column is missing entirely. The Action column tells you exactly what to add or rename.

Copy or download the correct headers

The fastest fix is Copy correct headers. It puts the full header row on your clipboard, ready to paste into row 1 of your file.

Copy the correct headers

Replace row 1 in your file

Open your original file, select the entire first row and paste the correct headers over it (or paste your data under the template's header row). Make sure your data still starts in row 2 and that no columns shifted. Save the file.

Resubmit

Back in Readily, click Resubmit and upload the corrected file. The template check should now pass and the file moves on to scrubbing.

Tips

  • Small differences count: an apostrophe, an extra space, or singular versus plural will all fail the check.

  • Missing columns must be added even if they will be empty for every row.

  • Columns must be in the required order, which is why replacing the whole header row is safer than editing individual cells.
